“Sustainable Yogic Agriculture” stall at Ludhiana District Level Farmers Fair

Ludhiana ( Punjab ): The Sustainable Yogic Agriculture stall was set up by the Brahma Kumaris branch of Ludhiana at the District Level Farmers Fair, organized by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Ludhiana, Punjab. Dignitaries of the occasion include Honorable Varinder Kumar Sharma, I.A.S, Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana; Er Manmohan Kalia, Joint Director Agriculture (Engineering), Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Punjab; Dr. Narinder Singh Benipal, Chief Agriculture Officer, Ludhiana, and Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-DLSA Secretary PS Kaleka.

The Brahma Kumaris stall highlighted the importance of practicing organic and sustainable yogic farming, which was explained using model and posters depicting the techniques and scientific research-based results of yogic farming and ways to make organic compost. Farmers from different areas of Punjab visited the Brahma Kumaris stall and were educated about organic and yogic ways of farming by the Brahma Kumari Sisters and Agriculture Experts BK Dr. Poonam Sharma, Principal Microbiologist (Pulses), Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, Punjab Agriculture University, and Agriculture Extension Officer BK Raman.

On behalf of Brahma Kumaris and the Agriculture and Rural Development Wing, BK Dr. Poonam Sharma briefed about the Sustainable Yogic Agriculture Project which is also being undertaken by the farmers of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan, and the incredible results they found in terms of both farming production and economic growth. She also shared the Yogic farming experiments done by Dr. Subhash Gill, Principal Scientist, Directorate of Wheat Research, Karnal, and better results he gained from Yogic farming in comparison to Organic farming and farming using chemical fertilizers.

Through this exhibition, hundreds of farmers were empowered and enlightened to practice Sustainable Yogic Agriculture that will enable them to grow pure, healthy, and toxic-residue-free crops with more productivity and less expenditure.
