“Green India – Clean India” : Tree Plantation Drive by Brahma Kumaris Rupnagar

Guwahati ( Assam ):  The mindless exploitation of natural resources by mankind has imperiled the existence of the planet itself. Rising pollution, mounting filth, dirty rivers, a restless ocean and melting glaciers, all these are just due to human insensitivity and thoughtlessness. An obsession with industrial progress has caused man to lose sight of the tenuous ecological balance and the consequences of mindless deforestation are evident everywhere now.

Tree plantation and the use of alternative sources of energy are some of the many measures that one can take to reduce the effects of climate change. Tree plantation is a harbinger of prosperity. There is only one way left to come out of the dangers and challenges to the environment on earth and that is the maximum plantation of trees.

Hence, under the umbrella project named “Green India – Clean India,” initiated by the Education Wing of the Brahma Kumaris, the Guwahati Branch of the organization located in Rupnagar created a Tree Plantation Drive.  This project, started on July 10, 2019, shall culminate on September 30, 2019, at the Shantivan Campus, Abu Road (Rajasthan), the International HQ of the Brahma Kumaris, and aims at planting at least 2,00,000 trees annually across various locations in India.

Rajyogini Brahma Kumari Sheela, Sub-zone Incharge, Brahma Kumaris North-East Zone; Dr. Arun Kumar Sarma, former Member of Parliament from Assam; Sri. Vijay Kumar Gupta, Chairman, Assam Financial Corporation Ltd.; Sri Pronoy Bordoloi, Managing Editor, Prag News; Sri Utpal Baruah, Managing Director, UB Photos, and scores of members from the Brahma Kumaris Organisation planted about 50 trees on the Majar Road in the Bhangaghar Area, Guwahati, under the supervision of Tree Man Bakul Gogoi.

This campaign plans to make people aware of the environmental issues that plague our mother earth. Also, as a spiritual organization, our main aim is to help people experience greater well-being through inner peace and universal values.

In addition, the campaign aims to plant thousands of saplings of diverse varieties in Guwahati with contributions from people in schools and colleges, community groups, businesses and government. The aim is to get people of the city to participate in educating their neighbours about the benefits of having a clean and green surrounding.
