Brahma Kumaris Organize Art Competition and Exhibition “Golden Lanka”

Sri Lanka : The Brahma Kumaris of the Colombo Zone held an art competition for school children in two categories (for age ranges 12 to 14 and 15 to 18) in which about forty schools participated with great interest. One hundred twenty-two paintings were received from nearly forty schools.  In this “Golden Lanka” Art Competition, the children depicted through art their visions of what the future world could look like.

The paintings were exhibited for the public to view and the awarding ceremony was organized. First place winners in both categories were each awarded 25, 000/-. The second place in both categories received awards of 15, 000/- each. Third place in both categories received 10,000/- each. The first three were awarded golden, silver and bronze medals. Apart from that, all participants received certificates and a gift voucher for 500/-.

Very famous professional artists (in Sri Lanka) selected the winners. Chief Guest Miss Pupudu Nuwanthi Hewage (the Assistant director of the zonal educational office of Colombo) honored the prizes for the first three places in each category; other prizes, gift vouchers, and certificates were given by sponsors and the Peoples Bank Wellawatte Branch Manager. Peoples Bank (One of the Government Banks in Sri Lanka) arranged saving books for all participants and also a cap and Oxford dictionary for the 6 winners.

This Art Exhibition was organized to inform the leaders and general public about the desires of the children on how the future world should be. In the art many have drawn unity among religions and harmony with nature, animals and birds. This event was appreciated by many including school teachers, principals and the public.
