Mount Abu ( Rajasthan ): The five-day media conference cum retreat called “Media, Spirituality and Social Transformation” concluded with its valedictory session on “Ethics in Media: The Need of the Hour” in Gyansarovar.
The initiative included participation of about three hundred media professionals from print, electronic, cyber, promotional and academics fields from all over India, participating in Plenary sessions, a Talk show, Cultural Programs and the spiritual sessions of the conference.
Deep contemplation, cogitation, discourse, discussion and media communication went on in eight open sessions in the various thought-provokingtopics such as “Empowering Media for Social Transformation”, “Spirituality – A New Dimension in Media Profession”, “Role of Social Media in Social Transformation”, “Social Accountability in Today’s Media“ and “Value Centric Media – The Call of Time”. Apart from this, media persons were given the deep experience of inner peace, happiness and bliss through six Experience Sessions on Rajyoga Meditation, Spiritual Discourse and Stress Management.
Starting the Valedictory session, BK Komal, News editor of Peace of Mind channel and PRO of Brahma Kumaris, said that our values are at its lowest today. Such things are happening in the society that have no precedence historically. The main thing distinguishing humans from animals are values. The Brahma Kumaris are an example of how humans should be living. This is possible only because of the values given by the Supreme Soul.
The Keynote address was given by BK Yudhishter, Associate Editor of World Renewal Magazine, and faculty member and research guide in the education wing of the Rajayoga Education and Research Foundation. He said that today media has forgone its role of educating and enlightening for information and entertainment. Without bringing values into their lives with Rajayoga, media people cannot maintain these in their works.
Ms. Bharati Bala Patnaik, Principal of the College of Mass Communication and Chairman of the Board of Studies in Burhanpur University as well as a published author, also shared her views. With personal examples she talked about the degradation in values today. She defined social and moral values. Media people should concentrate on putting positive content out there as people get inspired by it and it shapes their values.
BK Niranjana, Subzone Incharge of the Brahma Kumaris in Baroda, talked about the compulsive nature of man which makes habit-changing difficult.
Guest of honour, Mr. Rajesh Asnani, New Indian Express Jaipur’s Senior Assistant editor, said that media is passing through its most critical phase today. Appreciating the work of the Brahma Kumaris he said this is the only university today talking about mind management. Time has come to practice positive journalism.
The Summary Resolution of the conference was presented by BK Sushant, National Co-ordinator of the Brahma Kumaris Media Wing.
A pledge was taken by all participants to follow ethics in their lives and inspire others to do so as well. This resolution was declared passed by Mr. S S Dogra, Bureau Chief of Himani magazine and TV Channel from Nepal. He said no other organization holds such conferences for the media people. If we make our characters shine, our work will automatically shine. A Vote of Thanks was given by BK Nathmal from Cuttack.
