A gigantic rangoli created by the Ahmednagar branch of Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya and its youth wing on November 26 last year, has now found a place in the Guinness World Records as the ‘largest sand painting’ in the world.
Depicting universal peace, harmony, cooperation and spiritual values, the rangoli was made as a tribute to those who lost their lives in the 26/11 terror attack in Mumbai. It was created at the Ashokbhau Firodia School ground and measured 9,028 square metres (97,176 square feet).
More than 2,500 students and members of Brahma Kumaris youth wing from all over the country participated in the mega event and about 19,000 kg of rangoli colours in nine shades was used. About Rs6 lakh was spent on the colours used for the rangoli.
The event’s organiser, Deepak Harke, told DNA that the World Record certificate was handed over to them on May 12 in Mount Abu (Rajasthan), the headquarters of the Brahma Kumaris. The previous World record was held by Pranali Patidar for creating a 6,000 square-metre rangoli in Dhule in 2009.

Brahmakumaris youth wing organised a function called ‘Letter to God’ at Gujarat University on Sunday as a part of celebration of their silver jubilee year, Gujarat University’s diamond jubilee year and 600 years of establishment of Ahmedabad city.
The citizens of Ahmedabad conveyed their feelings of gratitude and also asked for blessings to remove poverty, terrorism, corruption and other evils from the world by writing a letter to God.
More than 2,800 people wrote the letter, which was 2,841 feet long, in three hours’ time.
The spiritual organisation has initiated the process to register the event in the Guinness Book of World Records, Limca Book of Records, Asia Book of Records and World Amazing Records for it is the longest letter in the world. Earlier, around 2,000 students of Romania had written a 1358 feet long letter to Santa Claus on November 28, 2009.
