Brahma Kumaris Durga Utsav Pandal receive recognition from UNESCO

Royabagan, Kolkata ( West Bengal ): Four UNESCO(United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) team members and MLA Mr. Vivek Gupta visited Durga Puja pandal ( tableau of live goddesses ) set up by Brahma Kumaris Royabagan, Kolkata.

Brahma Kumaris Royabagan centre organised Jeevant Durga Utsav in collaboration with ‘Young Blood Club’ at CIT Park, Burrabazar, Kolkata from Panchmi, 30th September 2022 to Vijaya Dashami, 5th October2022 by installing a stall(pandal) with live goddesses. This pandal was visited by many people and was a huge success under the guidance of BK Poonam, BK Yogini, BK Prerna and other sisters.

Mr Vivek Gupta , MLA – Jorasanko led a convoy including US Consul General Her Excellency along with US foreign diplomats for a Puja tour around Jorasanko. Dignitaries present were :

  • Melinda Pavek, Consul General, U.S. Consulate General Kolkata
  • Jay R. McCann, Consular Officer, U.S. Consulate General Kolkata
  • Matthew S. Bikoff, Assistant Public Affairs Officer, U.S. Consulate General Kolkata.

A Brahma Kumari sister said, “United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has chosen this event(pandal) in Kolkata for a visit in the heart of the city. This is a great honour for us and we hope this is indicative of the success we will experience with their support.

On Navami, we had prestigious visitors from UNESCO and the Government representives at the event – Four members of UNESCO Cultural Heritage Team together with MLA Mr. Vivek Gupta, representative of Government of West Bengal visited this event and honored us.”

The UNESCO added Durga Puja in Kolkata to its 2021 list of Intangible Cultural Heritage, giving international recognition to the biggest religious festival of the 331-year-old city and the state of West Bengal.
